Guinness Extra Stout Review

Brewery: Guinness
Brewery Location: Dublin, Ireland
Alcohol: 4.1%

Following my post about my visit to Ireland and the Guinness Storehouse, I thought it would be fitting to post a review about a Guinness beer. This was actually just part of my crate of beer I was given by my friends and coworkers when I quit my last job. I didn’t actually drink this while I was in Ireland, but it was fitting to post it now.

Sight: A very nice dark drown, bordering black color. Completely opaque; you can barely see through the corners when held up to the light. There is very little head, and it disappears quite rapidly, barely leaving anything along the edges of the glass. It obviously doesn’t have that creamy consistency that Guinness on tap has, and that is due to it having carbon dioxide instead of nitrogen. I think the only reason I am going to rate the sight an 8 instead of a 9 is because of the disappointing head.

Smell: A nice malty smell to it with a slight chocolaty undertone.

Taste: It seems more carbonated than most other beers, it keeps making me burp. Otherwise, I like it. It has a nice, ever so slightly sweet, yet malty roastiness to it.

Overall

I quite like it. My friends from the UK and Northern Ireland think I am disgusting for liking it, but I don’t see why I can’t like both variants. This one is a little harsher than the Guinness one usually gets on tap, but in a good way, and I would drink it just as eagerly as I would a Guinness draught.
