Petlzl (old) Tikka Headlamp Review

I got this headlamp about 10 years ago, and it has proven most reliable. There’s really not too much to say about it other than praises.

This is an older Tikka model from Petzl, and I have used this on many outdoor trips in many places in the USA, South America, and Europe. It’s gotten quite a bit of use, and despite that, I think I have only ever had to replace the 3 AAA batteries maybe twice. The LED light bulbs offer an incredible battery life.

The casing did get cracked a couple years ago, and it made the contact unstable, so it would blink on and off on occasion. I fixed this with a bit of duct tape, and I got another couple years of use out of it.

Unfortunately, it now seems to be at the end of its life, but I am impressed with how well it held out. I have replaced it with another Tikka headlamp and at only about 20 bucks. We will see how that one fares. If it’s anything like my old one, then I expect it will serve me well.

Pros:

Minimal battery use

Strap adjusts for comfort

Much cheaper than other headlamps

Cons:

Case eventually cracked (after about 8 years)

  • 9/10
    Packability - 9/10
  • 8/10
    Reliability - 8/10
  • 9/10
    Value for money - 9/10
8.7/10

Summary

This no-frills headlamp has been reliable for the better part of a decade and has used very few batteries in that time. It did well, and I have bought a newer Tikka headlamp to replace it.
