Brewery: Greene King
Location: Bury ST Edmunds, Suffolk, England
Alcohol: 6%
This was just a beer that a friend picked up for me when she went to the Netherlands. I half jokingly told her to get some beers for me since she was going to a beer store, but she came back with this, and a few others which I have and will write about!
It is said to be a malty, dark ale blended with their “very special and vintage rare 5x brew”, whatever that is supposed to mean…
Sight: Very dark, almost like cola actually. Fairly Opaque, although you can still faintly see through the glass. Very few bubbles/carbonation, and what bubbles there were were actually quite loud. It reminded me of Rice Crispies when listening to it, which isn’t something I normally do with beer.
Smell: Definitely a stronger smell. I can’t quite place it, but it is pleasant. A little malty, but yet, I want to say some sweetness, although I wouldn’t at the same time. In any case, it is definitely malty.
Taste: Well… malty, full bodied, and it leaves a pleasant bitter aftertaste on the back of the tongue, and even in the back of the throat a bit. It almost made me feel like my mucus itself was also a bit bittery. I quite enjoyed it actually because it wasn’t too much bitterness, but enough to be memorable.

Overall
A nice, full bodied beer that does live up to its claim of being complex. I can’t quite pin down exactly what I am smelling or tasting, but whatever it is, I like it. I do enjoy it and would buy more of these if I found them sold in a store nearby. Unfortunately though, it came from another country.
Love how you combine your two passions into one blog. Very cool! Cheers!
Thanks! Cheers as well!
