Brewery: InBev Belgium
Brewery Location: Leuven, Belgium
Alcohol: 6.5%
This was another beer that my friend got me when she went to Belgium. As I opened the beer, it practically erupted with foam, getting all over my desk and mousepad which made quite the mess. You can see in the picture that almost half of the beer went up in foam, which was a little disappointing.
The foam also took forever to die down so it was a while before I even poured the beer. In the following picture, my finger is at the .33L line, which is where it should have gone since it was a .33L beer, so you can clearly see how much was lost in the surprise Leffe volcano.
Once I poured it, though, It had a decent look to it.
Sight: A very dark brown and opaque liquid. A lot of bubbles lined the glass. Considering how much it foamed previously, there was barely any foam after pouring it, but I guess that could be to it already having lost most of the carbonation.
Smell: Quite a complex smell—it had the slightest notes of fruits, but more malty, I found.
Taste: Hoppy and malty at the same time. A mild toastiness to it with a hint of chocolate. It had a very slight, sweet aftertaste which wasn’t quite my thing, but it wasn’t too much either.

Overall
Once the beer was poured, it wasn’t bad, but the fact that it foamed up so viciously required that I dock points from somewhere, so the Sight score is only a 3 instead of the 7 I would have otherwise rated it. Otherwise, it was a pretty decent beer although I think I would have liked it more if I didn’t get slightly sweet notes (and if it didn’t attack me when I opened it).
