Prague 2.0

Along with the many places my friends I went to was Prague. A few of us had already been there, but we hadn’t gone together, so we decided to make a weekend out of it.

Alas, the Friday came, and we flew there. One of our group didn’t actually live in Cologne anymore, so he met us there. The first night was pretty low-key as we were tired. We just went out for dinner and then had some beers at the hostel.

The next morning, we proceeded walking around the city. One of the first things we ran into was one of my favorite things in the city: an escalator!

I don’t know why it fascinates me so, but it does. All the wall paneling is orientated with the rails, which is fine. But what’s really peculiar is that the ads are also aligned with the rails. If you look from the side, it gives the impression that you’re looking at a level scene with everyone (who are just normally standing on the escalator) standing at an odd angle.

Once through the subway, we were at the Prague Castle, where we also went inside the cathedral.

The Golden Lane has a small medieval museum as well, complete with torture equipment.

I kind of ended up leading the group around, and we went to the Kafka monument, which is 42 panels that shift around, sometimes creating a face while other times obscuring the original identity.

We then went to… another Kafka monument!

This one is based on a scene in Amerika (which I have not read yet).

A couple of my friends were feeling tired, so they went to the hostel to take a nap. Us remaining 2 decided to keep walking around and eventually made our way into the Hemingway Bar.

The cocktails in the Hemingway Bar were really good but really expensive. My cocktail was called something like “hidden glade,” and it not only tasted great but it came on a little panel with AstroTurf, and the bartender even burned a little bit of pine tree to add to the aromatic experience.

However, I think each drink was something to the tune of $30. We didn’t stay for second drinks.

The other 2 friends, feeling rested after their nap, reunited with us, and we all went out dancing for a bit before retiring for the night.

The next morning, we just walked around a bit and relaxed in a park since we were all fairly beat.

After some aimless wandering through the city, we stumbled upon quite the treat.

We found a Lego Museum!

So of course, I went in.

It was pretty cool to see a lot of the Lego sets that my brother and I played with while growing up. There were a few in there that I had always wanted but never managed to obtain, and it was neat to see the finished models of sets that I had dreamed about owning when I was a kid, flipping through the latest Lego Magazine we used to get sent to us.

After that, it was time to make our way to the airport. But not before going through the subway and visiting my favorite attraction!

We then got to the airport, and what did we find? An entire recreation of the Prague Airport made out of Legos! The Czech do sure seem to like Legos.

After a short flight, we then got back home, ready for work the next day.
