Tuatara Aotearoa Pale Ale Review

Brewery: Tuatara Brewing Co.

Brewery Location: Wellington, New Zealand

Alcohol: 5.8%

This is one of the beers I got for Christmas while in New Zealand.

I would like to draw attention to the scaled bottle with a spine going down it. Tuatara is a type of lizard from New Zealand, and they obviously incorporated that in the bottle design.

Sight: Very clear golden amber. A bad pour resulted in a bit of head, and it stayed there for a while. Even after calming down, a thin layer of head remained on the beer during my entire drinking experience.

Smell: I was actually surprised at how hoppy and fruity it smelled. A very strong aroma that I liked. It reminded me of an IPA.

Taste: Zesty and hoppy, but still pretty smooth compared to what I expected after how much of an IPA it reminded me of based on the aroma. It was definitely no pilsner, but still not quite as strong as an IPA, and I found it to be very delightful.

Overall

It seemed like an IPA lite to me, and that was fine. Hoppy and fruity, but without being too much in your face. I liked it and I would gladly drink more of them (which I did).
