This is another of the beers that my coworkers gave me when I quit. This one was nice—a mild american pale ale from mexico. Funny. This actually made quite the mess when I opened it as it started foaming excessively. I hadn’t shaken it up recently, in fact, I actually had it sitting in front of me for about 10 minutes while I topped off another beer until I opened it. I don’t know if that was a fluke or not, but I am glad that I opened it on my desk and not over a carpet.

I thought it was interesting that the neck label said “Cerveza de los muertos” and “Biere de la mort” which both translate to “Beer of the dead,” but the English label read “Queen of the damned.” I don’t know if this is just part of a series or something, but I found the discrepancy odd. Trappistes Rochefort Review

Alcohol %: 9.2%!!!

Like the Suffolk, this was simply given to me by a friend who visited Belgium.

I would like to start off by mentioning how relatively hard it was to open. The cap is thick! I noticed it at first when opening the bottle because it definitely took some extra effort. I can also usually bend caps in my hand after opening the bottle no problem but I tried to bend this cap since it was being so difficult, but it retained the same shape it had as I took it off the bottle. Erdinger Schneeweiße Weizen review

I am not the biggest fan of Erdinger’s normal weizen, but I do like their dark weizen. I saw this in the store, and I figured I would simply try it. “Schneeweiß” mean “snow white” in English. Not like the fairy tale, but solely as a descriptive word—white snow—since this is a special winter beer. Note that the German title of the Snow White fairy tale is “Sneewittchen.” Continue reading →

Beer Tasting At Jameson Irish Pub

A few weeks ago I saw a posting for a beer tasting at the Jameson pub here in Cologne. I finally participated with a friend of mine last Thursday, and it was pretty cool.

The tasting was hosted by Wolf Heisig, who owns the Braukunstladen Köln here in Cologne. Mr. Heisig was quite knowledgeable and imparted some interesting facts about beer on us.
